Creating promotion codes
Once enabled, promotion codes can be configured from Ecommerce > Promotions Promotion Codes in the CMS .
Creating Promotion Codes
- You should create some test promotion codes of your own to work out how the functionality can work for you
Title: The title of your Promotion Code.
Description: The description of your Promotion Code.
Discount Type: There are five types of Promotion Codes, and they can be configured as follows:and there will be a number of different promotion types you can configure.
Once configuration is complete, click Save at the bottom of the page.
Initially, choose the Promotion Type, review the description of the Promotion, then choose Continue:
Selecting the discount type
There are five types of promotion code that can be configured.
Dollar amount off total order
- Dollar amount off total order: Enter a whole number value to apply a dollar amount off of an order. this will apply a dollar amount discount to the total order excluding freight
- Discount value: the dollar amount value for the discount
- Applicable to order totals greater than: The minimum dollar value required to be in the web order for a Promotion Code to be activated. For example, entering 5 will configure this Promotion to be activated for all web orders with a value of 5 dollars or more.
Dollar amount off category or product
OR
- Dollar amount off category or product: Enter a whole number value to this will apply a dollar amount discount off of a one specific category or one specific product.
- Discount value: the dollar amount value for the discount
- Applicable to order totals greater than: The minimum dollar value required to be in the web order for a Promotion Code to be activated. For example, entering 5 will configure this Promotion to be activated for all web orders with a value of 5 dollars or more.
- Applicable Type: Set to "Product" or "Category"
- Category: Select the category path you want the promotion code to apply to OR
- Product Code: Click "Search" and then select the product code you want the promotion code to apply to
Percentage off total order
- Percentage off total order excluding freight: Enter a whole number value to apply to a this will apply a percentage discount to the total order excluding its freight componentfreight
- Discount value: the percentage value for the discount
- Applicable to order totals greater than: The minimum dollar value required to be in the web order for a Promotion Code to be activated. For example, entering 5 will configure this Promotion to be activated for all web orders with a value of 5 dollars or more.
Percentage off category or product
OR
- Percentage off category or product excluding freight: Enter a value to this will apply a percentage discount off a of one specific category or one specific product.
- Discount value: the percentage value for the discount
- Applicable to order totals greater than: The minimum dollar value required to be in the web order for a Promotion Code to be activated. For example, entering 5 will configure this Promotion to be activated for all web orders with a value of 5 dollars or more.
- Applicable Type: Set to "Product" or "Category"
- Category: Select the category path you want the promotion code to apply to OR
- Product Code: Click "Search" and then select the product code you want the promotion code to apply to

- Set Price (ex tax) for a list of products: Enter this will allow you to define a set price for a list of Items and their specific prices.

Configure the Settings and Activate your promotion
Set the Title and a Description for your promotion:
- Title: Enter a title for your Promotion. The title entered will be shown in the Shopping Cart, during the Checkout, on the Order Complete page, and in the Order Confirmation emails sent.
- Description: Enter a description for your Promotion.
Then select Active, the Valid From and Valid To date/time and the Multiple Use Per Code for your promotion:
- Active: Select to turn on the Promotion, de-select to turn off the Promotion.
- Valid From: Select start date for the Promotion. The start date is based on Adelaide, South Australian time (GMT +9:30) which you may need to adjust

Number of Codes Redeemed: The number of times a Promotion Code has been activated by customers.
Status
Active: Check to activate the Promotion Code, uncheck to deactivate it.
Multiple Use Per Code: This should be checked when manually defining your Promotion Code name to allow multiple uses.

Promotion Codes Initial Generation
Promotion Generate Method: There are two ways to generate Promotion Codes, automatically and manually.
- Automatically generate codes: Enter a value for the number of Promotion Codes you wish to generate
- Manually specify codes: Enter the value of the . The end date is based on Adelaide, South Australian time (GMT +9:30) which you may need to adjust depending on your country, state or time zone.
- Multiple Use Per Code: Select Multiple Use Per Code to allow a Promotion Code configured in this Promotion to be redeemed multiple times. Leave this field un-selected if you want each Promotion Code configured in this Promotion to be redeemed once only.
Automatic issuing of promotion codes (optional)
You can optionally set the promotion code to be issued automatically to all successful orders over a given amount, these promotion codes would typically be unique, one time use only codes.
Once an order over the given threshold has been placed, the customer will receive their unique one time use only code in their order confirmation email, which can be used on their next order.
Note: this will not automatically apply a promotion code to a customer's order, they will still need to manually apply the code they have been emailed on their next order
- Issue to Orders Automatically: Select Issue To Orders Automatically to automatically generate a new Promotion Code to any customer who places a web order where the value of the web order placed is greater than the value you enter in the Issue to Order Totals Over field shown below. The Promotion Code that is generated at the time of order, will be shown in the Order Confirmation email sent to customers, and the customer can use the Promotion Code on their next web order. The Promotion Code generated will also be shown in the Promotion Codes field.
- Issue to Order Totals Over: Enter the minimum value for the web order that will receive a newly generated Promotion Code, to use on their next web order, in whole numbers. For example, entering 5 will configure new Promotion Codes to be generated for all web orders with a value of 5 dollars or more.
Configuring automatic issuing of promotion codes upon registration
You can configure a promotion code to be sent to a customer upon a successful/approved registration.
Please contact support@straightsell.com.au when proceeding with this as there are email template changes required.
Configure the below settings;
- Promotion Type: Percentage off total order excluding freight
- Discount Value: Enter your desired discount amount
- Applicable to order totals greater than: Must be set to 0
- Title: Enter a title for your Promotion. The title entered will be shown in the Shopping Cart, during the Checkout, on the Order Complete page, and in the Order Confirmation emails sent.
- Description: Enter a description for your Promotion.
- Active: Must be selected when read to go live.
- Multiple Use Per Code: Must be unselected
- Issue to orders automatically: Must be selected
- Issue to order totals over: Pick a high number that is inconceivable for a cart total (eg $99999)
- Promotion generate method: Automatically generate codes
- Number of Codes to Generate: 0
Configuring how the promotion code is used
Manually specify codes
- Promotion Generate Method: Manually specify codes - To enter the value or name of the Promotion Code you wish to create e.g. ‘SPRINGCLEANING’, for example. 'BlackFriday2023'. Or paste in a list of Promotion Codes that have been generated elsewhere. This method is often used with ‘Multiple Use Per Code’.
'Multiple Use Per Code'. Use this code generation method, when wanting to promote a single Promotion Code on a website banner, or in social media or in an email campaign, where every website user enters the same Promotion Code. NOTE: Promotion Codes can only be used once in any Promotion, whether Active or Inactive, therefore always add a numerical value representing the day, month or year to your Promotion Code, especially when setting up for annual Promotions. - Promotion Codes: These are the Promotion Codes available for this Promotion.
Automatically generate codes
- Promotion Generate Method: Automatically generate codes - To generate a number of non-sequential Promotion Codes. The number of codes generated is based on the value you enter for the Number of Codes to Generate field. Use this code generation method, when wanting to provide a list of Promotion Codes to use one code at a time on trade show flyers, or to use in a marketing campaign.
